Nasuh Matrakçı, one of the multifaceted geniuses of the 16th-century Ottoman world, was a historian, a geographer, and a master of miniature painting. One of his most famous works, a miniature depicting Istanbul's Historic Peninsula, is one of the rare visual sources documenting the urban fabric of the period.
At Çini Project, we meticulously crafted this unique work onto a 40x60 cm ceramic tile surface. This miniature, featuring a wealth of details from Sarayburnu to Süleymaniye, from the city walls to the shores of the Golden Horn, is not just a map; it's a perspective where time stands still.
This centuries-old depiction, combined with traditional techniques of tile art, has been transformed into a timeless decorative panel. This tile panel is a unique form of expression for those who wish to preserve Istanbul's historical memory through art. Matrakçı Historical Peninsula Miniature - Tile Panel
