This meticulously executed 50-cm-tall, wheel-drawn vase piece was inspired by Nasuh Matrakçı's famous miniatures depicting Suleiman the Magnificent's campaign in Iran. The pattern brings the rich color palette, meticulous detail, and geographical narrative power of the period to contemporary tile art.
Matrakçı Nasuh documented Suleiman the Magnificent's first campaign to Iran, conducted between 1533 and 1536, using miniatures in his work "Beyân-ı Menâzil-i Sefer-i Irâkeyn-i Sultan Suleiman Han." These miniatures are invaluable not only for their aesthetic narrative but also for their historical context, locational information, and geographic context of the period.
This traditional ceramic vase masterfully interprets Matrakçı Nasuh's meticulous miniature art, conveying a historical narrative onto the flawless surface of tile art. Its vibrant colors, fine linework, and lustrous surface make it a unique and collectible piece.
